PS Vita Guide
Your PS Vita Guide
Everything you need to install games, themes and get the most from your custom firmware — handcrafted and set up personally by Lewis.
No games on it? That's completely normal.
If you've just unboxed your PS Vita and there are no games installed, nothing is wrong — it's meant to be this way.
Your Vita has been set up by Lewis with custom firmware, so you're in full control of what goes on it. Instead of pre-loading games, your console is ready for you to install exactly what you want, free, over Wi-Fi. This guide walks you through it step by step.
Understanding your home screen
Your Vita home screen is organised into rows of bubbles (icons). Here's what you've got:
📱 “Apps” & “More Apps” (first two bubbles, middle row) — all the standard PS Vita apps: Settings, Browser, PS Store, Photos, Music, Videos, Messages, Friends, Trophies and more.
🛠️ “Mods” (third bubble) — all your custom firmware tools live here. Explained further down.
🎮 “Games + Themes” (fourth bubble) — the important one. This is where you install games and customise your console. We start here.
Installing games — PKGj
Inside the Games + Themes bubble you'll find PKGj — your game store. Think App Store or Google Play, but for your Vita, with a huge library of Vita, PSP and PS1 games downloadable free over Wi-Fi.
Connect to Wi-Fi
Before opening PKGj, connect to your home Wi-Fi (Settings > Network > Wi-Fi Settings).
Open PKGj
From the Games + Themes bubble, open PKGj. It loads the list of available games — give it a few seconds to fetch the latest database.
Find your game
Press Triangle to open the menu, then Search and type the game name. You can also filter by Vita, PSP, PS1 or DLC.
Install it
Highlight the game and press X, then confirm with X again to start the download.
Play
Press the PS button to return home while it downloads in the background. When done, the game appears as a bubble — tap it and play.
Custom themes — Custom Themes Manager
Also in the Games + Themes bubble is Custom Themes Manager, which changes the whole look of your Vita — backgrounds, colours, icons, even background music.
Open Custom Themes Manager
From the Games + Themes bubble, open Custom Themes Manager.
Browse the online repository
Select “Download and install a new Custom Theme from the online repository” to connect to a library of hundreds of community themes.
Import (first time)
The first time, press L + START to import all the theme files. It may take a while — just leave it running and it finishes on its own.
Pick a theme
Browse, choose one you like, and confirm to download and install it.
Apply it
Back on the main menu choose “Apply an installed theme”, pick your theme, and the Vita reboots with the new look.
Your Mods bubble — apps explained
Inside the Mods bubble is your custom firmware toolkit. You won't need most of these day-to-day, but here's what each one does. Tap to expand.

Your Apps & More Apps bubbles
The first two bubbles — Apps and More Apps — hold all the standard built-in Vita apps: browser, camera, photo and music players, the PlayStation Store, trophies, messages and more.
These work exactly as Sony intended. The PS Store still works if you want official content, and every standard feature is fully intact — your custom firmware runs alongside everything Sony built in, not instead of it.
